This was the beginning of Angki Purbandono's artistic revolution, which was to discover another beauty of photography in his own way. Beyond Versace is a photography series that Angki made from 2004 to 2010 about portraits of people with mental disorders he met in Jogja. At first, he never planned this, but after he bought a compact digital camera, he grew very eager to record anything in front of his eyes. At that time, almost every night and day, he found the mental disorders passing by on his street. A collection of photographs captured over a period of six years, Angki found the process of finding a title very memorable, as it should be able to 'live' the work to always inspire and be widely remembered. Angki decided that Beyond Versace is a 'fashion photography book'. It is not a concept of sadness that must be mourned, but a lifestyle that also has happiness, luxury, glitter, and even contemporary elements that have never been imagined before. Beyond Versace is also a criticism of the high level of stability and intelligence of humans, who underestimate and remove them from their memory and life. Those with mental disorders were the supermodels; the city was the catwalk, and Angki was the photographer.
